Books About Mom , Craftivity Corner

The concept of Mother's Day is a hard one to grasp for toddlers, but that doesn't mean they can't celebrate by sharing a good book about moms with someone they love.

The books I am featuring today are all favorites at our house. When we talk about mommies, these are the ones that I grab first. So this weekend I hope you have a chance to cuddle up with a little person and share some books about moms. [more]

Here and now, Professor Mom

I love my kitchen, for many reasons. It's not new or fancy, and it sorely needs updating as far as the cabinets and floor go, but I love it because I love the space of it, what it represents, and how I feel when I'm in it. And while the big windows in the breakfast nook make me smile every morning, my favorite part of the room is this wall here:

My Kind of Burger, Jessica

I love burgers, but I am not that into beef. I do a lot of turkey burgers, but recently I discovered that ground chicken grills up much better and tastier than the more popular turkey burger.

These chicken burgers are my new favorite. They are a spin on Asian barbecue, with lots of rich and bold flavors. If you assemble the mixture in the morning during breakfast time, the flavors of the burger come alive as they marinade within the ground chicken. The result? Burger nirvana.

Me, the Stranger, Talia's Blog

Urban city streets are like a mysterious woman who is attractive yet distant, unpredictable and fated. You’ll know when she doesn’t trust you any longer; when you’ve crossed over to mainstream, because she’ll treat you like a stranger.

I have been marginalized. [more]

The Ketchup Phase, Jessica

Our older son R never went through what I deem the “Ketchup Phase.” You know about the Ketchup Phase? It is the period most children go through when they decide that everything, yes everything, tastes better with ketchup on it. [more]

Need-to-know, Professor Mom

In the walk-up line yesterday afternoon a mom and I talked about how we thought our kids had fared (they both don't test well) on the EOGs earlier that day. We were hopeful, nervous, sympathetic. The topic of the potential re-testing came up and she told me her son was most nervous about the possibility of having to take the tests over again, in a matter of days. [more]

DIY Magnetic Frames, Craftivity Corner

Photobucket

My son and I made these photo frames for his grandmothers and great grandmothers last Mother's Day .They were such a hit I am sharing them here. The beauty of these frames are that if your family is like ours, we are scattered all over North America and shipping gifts can get expensive. Foam is light and they fit into a 6x9 envelope not problem with room for a card too! [more]

Bag of Tricks: the test-taking edition, Professor Mom I had a pretty brutal weekend grading papers all weekend long (and weekend nights), with the exception of a few glimmering moments here and there--our Derby Day celebration, a fun play-date at our house on Sunday with a new friend, some gardening with T. But most of the weekend was spent grading. I wore out a path from the kitchen table to the office because every five seconds I had to pop up, rush over to the computer, and run google searches to catch plagiarists in action.

Smothered Swine, Jessica

Ok, so I had to see the humor in this recipe seeing as though the media is in full blown “the sky is falling” mode with the Swine Flu. I have had this recipe for Smothered Pork in the works for months now, and I finally made it this past week.

Bad jokes aside, this recipe is quite tasty and makes great leftover sandwiches, which SPH partook of this weekend. If you are looking for a good lightened comfort food recipe, this is right up your alley. [more]
