Fancy Beach Drink, Jessica We’re back from our trip to visit family and I have to say the re-entry went relatively smooth this trip. Usually when we get back home it is a mad dash to unpack/do laundry/go to the grocery/catch up on mail, and so on. But not this time, this time we were relaxed and just eased back into our weekly routine. While I would like to say that our ease of re-entry was due to some wonderful planning ahead on my part, I can take no credit. But I do think our laid back attitude could have something to do with our taking it easy on our last day at the beach. [more]

The Woman Beneath, Talia's Blog The nurse pulled back the curtains. I approached the hospital bed that held a mere form of my grandmother. Her shoulders were exposed. A white blanket cloaked the rest of her body. She looked like a skeleton. The nurse said, "She won’t eat or drink." It was difficult to look into the eyes of this frail failing woman. It was if we had never met. For as long as I have known my grandmother she has been like the Eiffel Tower, tall and made of tons of iron. "Nana," I said. She slightly opened her eyes. "Please drink some water." [more]

Sun Catcher Caterpillar, Craftivity Corner
Bugs never seem to get boring for my son and I don't blame him, they are everywhere right now. This craft was all I could do to get him inside and slather some more sunscreen on him between "bug hunts" in our backyard.

The other side, Professor Mom For those of you on the edge of your seats (and I know you're out there) wondering how we made out on Friday at the end-of-year IEP meeting, it went well--better than either one of us had anticipated. I realized during the first 25 minutes or so of what turned out to be a 2 1/2 hour long meeting, that I had desperately needed to let off some steam, and L.'s IEP team seemed to recognize that. Scott and I had stayed up late the night before strategizing and writing out an "agenda" of our concerns, goals, and needs. [more]

Prince Harry is in town I've been sitting here contemplating exactly what I want to write about for the better part of today. So many interesting (and frightening, and happy) things have happened to me and around the world over the weekend, that my writing should know no bounds. I should have a plethora of things to write about. For example, I could write about my cousin's beautiful wedding shower this past weekend (and a few tips on wedding shower etiquette to boot). [more]

The Hoax, Talia's Blog Bonnie Sweeten recently claimed that she and her daughter were abducted by two black men. Her allegations reminded me of a similar story, that of Charles Stuart’s. [more]

Strawberry Sauce, Jessica A couple weeks ago I posted a recipe for strawberry bread to help you use all the spring strawberries that are in season right now. Two weekends ago weekend, our family visited a farmer's market in Virginia to pick up some fresh produce. The top offering? Strawberries! [more]

Laced Bookmark, Craftivity Corner School is almost out and that means summer reading! This bookmark is a wonderful incentive for your independent reader to dive into summer reading with style! 1. Gather your materials. You will need some fun card stock, scissors, a hole punch, ribbon, you don't have to have a corner rounder but if you do it's a nice touch to use it. [more]

Ready to go!, Jessica Yesterday I shared a few websites to help you virtually prepare for this season’s farmer’s markets. Once you’ve done your research into where you can find some great locally grown food, you are ready to go. Of course, there are a few extra things you might want to bring with you to help maximize your time at your local farmer’s market. --Grocery Bags—Sure, the farmers selling their produce and goods will most likely have bags for you to use, but bringing your own just makes things easier and greener. All wrapped up, Professor Mom This has been one long week--so long that by Wednesday I was convinced it really should have been Friday already. Throw in end-of-school year activities and the accompanying stress, preparation for end-of-year IEP meeting, sleep deprivation, the start of swim team practice for T., and the adjustment to a new schedule, and you have a very draining mix to cope with.
