Saddest kid's movies of all time Anyone in their 20's or older often looks back fondly on how things "used to be". Well, maybe 20's is a little young to be thinking that way, but at the ripe old age of 26, there have been a couple of times when I've gotten a little nostalgic for the good old days that didn't require having an electronic device attached to your body 24/7. But I digress. I'll save that rant for another post. This post, my dear readers, is dedicated to... Bambi! Well, kinda. [more]

Yellow Burgers, Jessica Each day so far this summer we have a “Letter of the Day.” To help make it fun, I took a set of magnet letters and put them in a bag. The boys take turns reaching in without looking and picking a letter. R, my five year old, writes on a dry erase board the uppercase and lowercase letter. I figure this can help G learn to recognize letters and R to practice his writing. [more]

Keeping it real, Professor Mom One day last week I was sitting in the waiting room of T.'s speech therapy place, indulging in a rare few moments of magazine-reading. The magazine I was reading had a huge, splashy picture of Kate of Jon & Kate fame (infamy?) on the front cover, and some provocative headline about their crumbling marriage, or something of that sort. One of the "regulars" there--another mom (there are about five of us regulars who are there, same time, same day, every week. [more]

The Truth, Talia's Blog They say, "You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free." But freedom isn't free at all, it comes at a cost. The truth can straighten the round band of gold that binds a husband and wife together... when she confesses to being unfaithful. The truth can unravel the friendship bracelet woven together from a hundred pieces of string at camp ten years ago. Telling the truth can be terrifying. I know. The palms of my hand sweated as I stood before them. My cue cards were slightly damp, smudging the ink, smearing some of the words I had carefully written. [more]

Stress Free Father's Day, Craftivity Corner I have seen these balloon stress balls made before but never tried it myself. I thought it would make a cute Father's Day craft even if it's not toddler friendly ,school age kids would be able to do this independently. [more]

Little big engineers, Professor Mom In the never-ending quest to scour the internet and libraries for all science crafts and activities related to L.'s interests I found a great one last week. L. loves to build and design structures, and he has an uncanny ability to render his visions into small, almost-microscopic, blueprint-like form on paper. When he's inspired, he'll sit in his bed with his plastic protractors and compasses and his pencils and painstakingly draw his designs. T. doesn't quite possess this type of focus or interest, but she does love to work with her hands and manipulate objects. [more]

When Kerby is ours, Talia's Blog One afternoon in March, Kerby Revellus, 23, stabbed three of his sisters, killing two of them. The third sister, Serafina, survives with nightmares she doesn’t want to talk about. This story is heartrending. It is a narrative that never should’ve been told, a plot we never should’ve read. This morning, a Boston Globe article sought to explore what may have led to Kerby murdering his two sisters. I wish I could rewrite its end. [more]

Boy or girl? That is the question. I just read an interesting article, and I’m not sure how I feel about it. Here is the situation; you and your man, have a nice romantic night together. A couple of weeks go by, and SURPRISE…you are going to expand your family. First off, let me congratulate you, Congratulations! So, as time goes by you get antsy to know the sex of the baby. No worries, because now there is an at-home test for expecting mothers that will determine the sex of the baby. [more]

Status quo, Professor Mom Decisions are funny things; you agonize and agonize over them (if they are major ones), you toss and turn at night over them, analyzing the decision from every angle, turning it over to see the underside, then sling-shotting it far into the future so you can examine it there and wonder whether it will have some dire unforeseen impact that will wreak irrevocable damage, thus altering the course of the future forever. At least I do all these things--maybe I'm just obsessive that way. [more] |
