I remember when I was released from the county jail. I passed through the door. I inhaled the air. I walked through the grass. I spread my arms, because I was finally free. I had lunch the other day with a friend that is unemployed. I told him, "Aaron, you are free." He looked puzzled. But it's true, if he wants it to be. He's free to revisit the dreams he left in his youth, re-examine himself and find new life. And that is how I felt this morning as I drove to the courthouse to advocate for one of the boys. Working with them is the only time I feel like I am doing what God has called me to do. It is the only time I feel free.
