Yellow Burgers

Each day so far this summer we have a “Letter of the Day.” To help make it fun, I took a set of magnet letters and put them in a bag. The boys take turns reaching in without looking and picking a letter. R, my five year old, writes on a dry erase board the uppercase and lowercase letter. I figure this can help G learn to recognize letters and R to practice his writing. After the letter of the day is chosen, we try and find words that start with that letter and come up with an activity or fun thing to do that begins with each day’s letter. How serendipitous then that when these burgers were on the menu, “Y” was the letter of the day! Y is for Yellow Burgers (the yellow color is from turmeric) Juice of half a lime 1 tablespoon brown sugar 3 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped ¼ cup crushed roasted peanuts ½ cup panko or regular breadcrumbs 1 tablespoon fish sauce ¼ teaspoon salt ½ teaspoon fresh ground pepper ½ teaspoon turmeric ½ teaspoon garlic powder (or use 2 fresh cloves) 1 pound ground chicken 6 buns Combine all ingredients except the ground chicken and buns. Mix well in a bowl: Add the ground chicken and mix well until all ingredients are incorporated. Grill for 7-8 minutes per side over medium high heat. Serve on buns with your desired toppings. Serves 6. SPC
