It's been "one of those days," and it is not yet 11 a.m. I am trying to keep my head up and keep on keeping on... With all the activity of this week (birthdays, weddings, etc), it has been busy with a capital B-U-S-Y. Add a few typical mommy moments and roadblocks, and I am just happy to be smiling. When things get challenging, we all have our own personal tricks and tips to help keep things moving along. So maybe this is a strange segue, but I have a trick that has been helping us in our home during mealtime, and I'd like to share it with you. I have deemed it the "oh wow!" bite trick, and it came about a few weeks ago during a particularly challenging mealtime with R and G. R and G were not eating their dinner one night. I try not to whet their competitive appetites, so I don't overtly challenge them. But when I saw G take a good bite of his vegetables, I said, rather enthusiastically, "Ohhhhhhhh wooooooooooow!" I never imagined his response would be so strong. G went for another bite, in order to get the response, and then another...soon R joined in on the "Oh wow!" fun, and before I knew it they were both well on their way to eating a good dinner. We do this every once in a while, and the boys like it so much that even our little two-year-old G will sometimes say, when his eating has stalled, "oh wow bite?" I play along, and once he has eaten a good bite (usually of vegetables or something that he isn't eager to eat), I respond accordingly. Works for me, and I hope it will work for you, too! SPC
