A nationally known food star regularly uses a "garbage bowl" on the counter to collect food items to throw away once the cooking is complete. The thought is that the collecting of waste at the counter expedites the cooking process, taking away the need for many trips to the trash. I've started to do something similar, but I have deemed it my compost bowl: As I peel, slice and dice, I collect fruit and vegetable scraps to be dumped in our compost pile after dinner is finished. It couldn't be easier to do, and it diminishes the amount of food waste we are throwing away. You can use other items from your kitchen too. Coffee grounds can add nitrogen to your soil or compost and egg shells can add healthy calcium. I am sure there are other ways to enhance your garden through reusing items from your kitchen too. Anyone have some ideas to share? SPC
