Fine motor skills are crucial for early learning, especially once children enter school and are expected to write, and use small manipulatives. So let's start honing the skills now with fun activities like this St.Patrick's Day lacing card. You can make this for them or have them help by coloring and punching the holes.
1. Gather your materials. You will need some cardboard , we used a gift box, but a cereal box is great too. Green markers, a hole punch, scissors and green yarn.
2. Start by drawing a shamrock on your cardboard and have your child color it.
3. Cut out and bunch holes. For beginners only punch a few, you can always punch more as your child's skills increase.
4. Tie a large knot or tape one end of the yarn to the back of the shamrock. Start lacing. Do not worry if your child doesn't lace it in order. Our goal is that they are lacing , however they do it. If they are having a hard time getting it though, wrap some clear tape on the end to make a harder tip.
