Days like today that bring back such horror, sadness and strong emotions are the perfect time to talk to our kids about how we are feeling, and to open a dialogue about their feelings. These books are a great place to start.
"When Sophie Gets Angry, Really, Really Angry" by Molly Bang has been a great tool to use when dealing with children and feelings for years. The book takes the readers through a tantrum and upset from an insiders perspective and has no judgment, just expression. Sophie does have a temper but she also has some pretty good coping skills. Don't miss this book .
"Silly Billy" by Anthony Browne isn't silly at all, Billy is actually a worrier. If you are anxious at all, you will get this book. I come from a long line of worriers and so much of this book rings true. In it Billy learns about worry dolls from his Grandma, he uses them and his worries vanish... sorta!
"The Way I Feel" by Janan Cain is another one to add to your library list. There are few books out there that can explain some pretty complex feelings and be engaging while doing it. The author/illustrator manages to break down feelings successfully for the readers and match them with fun, descriptive illustrations.
