I get a lot of inspiration for crafts while walking the aisles every week at the grocery store. Here are 5 items anyone can get easily and have fun with their toddler or preschooler with , and skip the overwhelming trip to a craft or hobby superstore. 1.Marshmallows! Anyone who reads my main blog No Time For Flash Cards knows how much I love using marshmallows, and it's not just because I like the taste. They are fun to make 3D art with , the colored ones are perfect for counting and sorting and add in a few toothpicks and you can build structures too! 2.Popsicle Sticks There is no need to run out and buy a huge box of craft sticks, which even for someone who makes crafts daily can't go through in 3 years! Instead have a family treat this weekend and save the sticks. Next week you can use them to make shapes , use them in play-dough sculptures, or even glue a bunch together and make a coaster for Mother's Day. 3.Drinking Straws Every time I go down the cereal aisle at my local store I see neon straws and think to myself "next time" . I should really pick some up because straws are the perfect craft supply. Cut them into smaller pieces and thread them onto ribbon or pipe cleaners for beads, use them to make structures with masking tape or small bits of play dough, or make a paper flower and use straws for stems! Either way it's a lot of bang for your .99 cents! 4. Coffee Filters I love coffee filters. I love how food coloring ( another grocery store buy) is absorbed into them, I love how water colors look on them and I love how easy they are to make into butterflies, and flowers. Great for color mixing lessons as well these aren't just a must have for moms every morning! 5. Fruits and Vegetables! Potatoes, apples, oranges, zucchini, even mushrooms make awesome prints when cut and dipped into paint. No need to be making anything specific , just explore the fun prints that these grocery store staples make. So even if your week is hectic ( and who's isn't?) and you don't make it to the craft store to get glitter, or more glue you can have fun with things you can pick up while you get milk and eggs!
