Wow, that is tough. I am so sorry that happened. Although I was never into team sports I can definitely relate to the issue of "not being picked".

I'm sure that L.'s situation only compounds the hurt for him.

I commend you for trying so hard to have him be included. I'm not sure how I could manage to deal with watching that much hurt(at least not more than once).

Oh, it was so so very tough--one of the hardest experiences in a long while. But I think he worked through it all, in his own way (me? I'm not so sure I did), and he's back at practice. We're not thrilled with the competitive slant to things this year, so we're taking it a meet at a time. If we have another setback like that, we'll have to reconsider it all.

Fingers still crossed!

Seeing the mistakes definitely requires the perspective of time. I know one of the things we struggle with is deciding when it's time to take a stand and when the better course is to back down. I don't always want to give in to the "pack it in" response that is usually Scooter's first thought, but sometimes that's exactly what we need to do. But I do also believe that we all learn from these moments, so they're not a total loss.

It's very difficult when you have two kids, too, and you have to juggle what's best for each one of them-just another complication thrown into the mix!
