That creek is a child's perfect outdoor play place! When I was young, I had a friend whose pasture had a creek running through it. Her mother would let us wear rain boots and go stomping down it for quite a long walk! I remember what fun that was. The ditch by the house where I grew up always had water running in it. I remember taking pieces of 2X4 and putting a nail with a triangle of paper in it. They were our sail boats, we loved to see how long they'd stay upright.

I really want to set this up with Scooter. Maybe this summer we'll rope off a square and check on it every few days. That might buy me a little more time outside for him.

I think some kids just need a focused activity to inspire them to get outside. L. often just doesn't know what to do with the outdoors space, so he needs a little direction first.

I love the image of you making little board boats and sailing them, Omaha!
