One of the (many) things that concerns me about the current focus on weight is that the message frequently ends up being "lose weight/be skinny however you can" and the idea of health is lost. Not that I'm one of those women who would have been able to insert myself into the young women's conversation either.

I agree 100%. You can be skinny and also be unhealthy. You can also exercise a lot and eat unhealthy foods. I always feel like healthy eating is the answer, and obsessing over numbers and clothing sizes can be so damaging, especially for our young girls.

Ten pounds?! I wish.

My sister always has those great things to say. I don't. I know exactly what you mean, I'm always wishing I'd speak up. But I rarely do.

I'm trying hard to be present for my kids and hoping we can pass on confidence and positive body image and healthy eating habits. That last part is the one that I need to work on most.

It's tricky, Omaha. And we struggle because of L.'s eating problems. Sometimes I'm so happy to see him eat anything, that I find myself not caring what it is. But of course it matters, and I keep trying to push the healthy foods at him, in the hopes something will take.
