I'd be interested to see if I even COULD skate?! I've got some very vague memories too, of a lake cleaned off for skaters and hot cocoa in the nearby brick building. I must have been 8 or so.

I'd love to get my kids out to skate this year, we'll see!

I have never ice skated (or skied, for that matter). It wasn't readily available where we were, and my parents just didn't want to make the extra effort. It would probably have been very difficult for me, as it seems to hit a number of motor skills that don't come easily--and that's why I can't imagine trying it now. We are thinking about signing E. up for skiing at some point since it's pretty easy to get to here, but ice skating's a possibility in the winter too.

L. has A LOT of trouble with coordination, and so it was a little painful to watch him--but he was game to make it work and definitely thought it was worth trying. I can see how once he gets better he'll enjoy the feeling of skating...
