I feel really lucky that we're going to be around the same relatives we're frequently around, though even at Thanksgiving, Scooter had a bought of selective mutism once everybody was there. They've become understanding about things like that over time.

I've also noticed that this year the anticipation of and surprises associated with Christmas have been more stressful in years past. We try to balance the not-knowing with not telling or giving everything ahead of time, but have really noticed that excitement can lead to a meltdown as quickly as many other emotions.

Merry Christmas! I'm glad you are getting your white Christmas and that your kids are getting to enjoy some snow...even if you had to go to another state to get it. :0)
Have a wonderful vacation.

Excitement is just something L. doesn't process well--as the 7 1/2 hour log car ride yesterday reinforced in us--whew. If you understand well how difficult the different emotions are to kids on the spectrum, then it becomes so much easier to understand and deal with.

Happy holidays to all!

LONG car ride, NOT log car ride--that would have been something.
