As a child, and even now, I find great peace in the comfort of a good book. When things would get really stressful during my undergrad, I escaped into Danielle Steele novels, of all things. I read a ton of those. I think it's great that reading has helped L handle what could be stressful situations.
There are a few books written by young men with Asberger's. Maybe those would be interesting to him? Or perhaps when he's just a little older...

Have a wonderful weekend!

I think when he gets older he'll appreciate reading books by others with AS. Right now he's devouring those books in the My Name is America series--he loves non-fiction!

Have a great weekend!

I too always had a book in hand for several years. I remember being so engrossed in a book one recess that I didn't notice when my class had gone in.

One nice thing about kindergarten and Scooter's reading ability is that the other kids are still openly impressed--it's still cool to be smart. I'm worried about when that's no longer the case.

It's still cool in third grade, too, but I'm sure things will change.

I remember books being my comfort when I was at school. If my two friends (!) were absent, I'd often take a book out to recess. Made me feel safe...

I'm so glad L. has grown into a reader! Reading has always been great escape from daily stress for me, starting at a young age. Much like L., I was the kid that brought a book to public places such as the grocery store -- I liked to crawl into a big bottom shelf that holds dog food or diapers and read in cozy comfort.

That is so awesome. I think it is great to have a child who really gets passionate about something no matter what it is. I know some people who are so passionate about reading it is incredible. It really doesn't just have to be reading though. I think that if they are passionate about something that pushes them to be better. Like being passionate about water skiing is something that is great. I love it how he has caught the fire if you will.
