I love the light-hearted ending to this post. It's hard to see kids learning life lessons, I often wonder how my mom felt about these things. I had some pretty rude classmates who did all sorts of strange things. Then I think about it, and realize I made it through and turned out pretty okay. Hopefully the same will be said of my kids some day. It would be okay too, if they don't have to deal with the rude kids, but that's probably pretty unrealistic! And hey - I know my own kids will be rude at times too. You are so right about the nice part of childhood being second chances and opportunities for growth and learning.

Since the incident happened I've heard from many friends who have recounted similar stories in their own lives--moments where they were tempted to take something from a friend who they envied, or times when they told a fib, etc. I think this slip-ups are part of growing up, just as learning about friendship is a part of it as well.
