The miracle I appreciate most is the first night in a baby's life when mom gets 5 uninterrupted hours of sleep.  If my husband hadn't taken a few of the shifts, I would have had to wait until one of my kids was nearly two.  I don't think any of us would have survived.

  But 5 hours of sleep is pure enchantment.  That is what it takes to "knit a ravelled sleeve."

That's a completely different topic altogether. But yes...I was fortunate in that I could carve out a somewhat flexible schedule, which always allowed me to take long shifts during the nights. I wouldn't trade those nights for anything.
