Amid the weeping and wailing about impending winter weather, there is an undeniable bright spot: the beginning of ski season. Some resorts are opening trails here and there, and most will be in the full swing of things by Thanksgiving weekend (hey, that's only two weeks away!)
I don't know about you, but I like to take it easy on the slopes. Big, wide, gentle cruising trails are the place for me. I'm not in it for an adrenaline rush. I like the feeling of being in nature, and the stunning views of snow-covered mountains. Sort of a zen thing.
Different strokes for different folks. A lot of you people out there are daredevils. You're not happy unless you're ripping down double-black diamonds at supersonic speeds, or poking your way through hazardous glades far from any trail. But even you might find yourselves hesitant to try some of these runs. Travel and Leisure magazine has compiled a list of 15 of the world's scariest ski slopes.
The terrifying terrain spans the world, from the Rocky Mountains to the Northeast to the Alps, and there are some truly insane sights to behold. Each entry is accompanied by video. The first minute or so of this one nearly gave me a heart attack.
Yep, just cruising along a razor-thin ridge with cliffs on either side. What could go wrong? I think I'll stick with my beloved intermediate trails.
