Favorite bedtime books for babies and toddlers

As part of our nightly bedtime routine, my husband and I read three books to our children. But things have been getting a little boring lately (at least for us adults!) and I’ve been looking to expand my babies’ bedtime reading repertoire. Plus, with Christmas and Hanukkah coming up, books will make a great gift.

Although we don’t always read books specifically about bedtime, I like the idea of reading books about bedtime at bedtime. I think it helps our kids to settle down and get ready for sleep.

These are our current bedtime favorites:

Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown

  1. Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown
  2. The Going To Bed Book by Sandra Boynton
  3. Counting Kisses by Karen Katz
  4. Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney
  5. Good Night Gorilla by Peggy Rathmann
  6. Time for Bed by Mem Fox

What are your favorite books about bedtime for babies and toddlers?

There's a new book out called Dinosaur vs. Bedtime by Bob Shea, which is supposed to be a big help in getting kids off to sleep. It's for older kids, though -- ages 4 to 8.

We love the book Pajama Time by Sandra Boynton. In fact, we love all of her books but Pajama Time is specifically fun to make up a bedtime song to. As I whitness other family bedtime routines it becomes apparent that her books inspire singing--and each family has their own tune.

Good Night Moon was always a favorite around here too. Another one that was my favorite as a child and then one of my daughter's favorites was Where the Wild Things Are. I love that book.
