Writing a book seems to be on everyone's "To Do" list, but something that most people never do. Sure, talking about writing a book sounds like a great idea. But actually sitting down and committing to it? Thats an entirely different story.
Writing is something that has always come fairly easy to me, and unlike many of my peers, I enjoy doing. And, just like everyone else, writing a best-seller is on my "To Do" list. It's always been a thought that was floating around in my head, but lately I've been thinking very seriously about it. I just have one problem- I have no idea where to start!
I've decided I can benefit greatly from taking some sort of novel writing course. (Novel writing course? Is that even a phrase that makes sense? Maybe I need more help than I thought.) Anyway...
Preferably, I'd like a course that meets once a week in a classroom (as opposed to an online course). I'm not completely opposed to the idea of doing something online, I'm just concerned the internet won't offer the same motivation a real, live instructor and real, live peers might.
Now, not to be patting myself on the back or anything, but I like to think I have a real penchant for writing comedy. Really. I'm quite hilarious at times. So, I at least have a vague idea of the general direction that I'd like my book to go in. Hey, it's a start, right? So my question to all of you is...
Have any of you had any successful (or unsuccessful) attempts at writing a book? What helped and/or didn't help you? Any advice for a fledgling author like little 'ol me? This is something that I would really like to do, or at least start, or at least seriously think about starting, so any and all advice you can offer would be great!
