Boy or girl? That is the question.

I just read an interesting article, and I’m not sure how I feel about it. Here is the situation; you and your man, have a nice romantic night together. A couple of weeks go by, and SURPRISE…you are going to expand your family. First off, let me congratulate you, Congratulations! So, as time goes by you get antsy to know the sex of the baby. No worries, because now there is an at-home test for expecting mothers that will determine the sex of the baby.

I know many expecting parents find out the sex of the baby at the 20-week sonogram. This makes sense with designing the baby’s nursery, buying clothes, naming, and preparation in general. But this new test allows you to determine the sex after just 10 weeks in the privacy of your own home. As expected, the test isn’t 100 percent accurate, but it can still give you hope, I suppose.

But, one comment in this article was a real Debbie Downer: ‘"Say a woman has three daughters and wants to get pregnant one last time to have a baby boy. If she takes the test at 10 weeks, and it's not the sex she wants, she may want to terminate and try again," Parks said.’ Really?

Now, I’m not getting into an abortion argument, nope, not going there AT ALL, so don’t get your panties in a bunch. I’m just a little sad by this comment. But, if the test isn’t 100 percent accurate, and you don’t want to wait to the 20-week mark for a sonogram to hear disappointing results, then you could be making a huge mistake and not even know it.

In my tiny, itty-bitty opinion (which doesn’t mean anything because I have never been pregnant) I think that the test could be a fun, little joy between mommy- and daddy-to-be, but should only be taken with a grain of salt. Have fun with it, but don’t do anything drastic until you get a professional opinion. I just was amazed that there was an at-home test for determining the sex of your baby at the 10-week mark! So, there you have it. How do you feel about it? Would you ever decide to try one at home?
