A public decision: The First Family's school choicePresident-elect Obama and his wife are in the process of choosing a school for their two young daughters to attend once they make the move to Washington. Part of their decision is whether to send them to public or private school. While most parents make this decision in the privacy of their own family meetings, this family's choice is very public, and subject to much scrutiny. If they decide on public school, the celebrity of their children could be a detrimental distraction to their kids' classmates. On the other hand, if they decide on private school, it could send the message that government-funded education is not good enough for government officials' kids. What do you think? Does the Obamas' choice reflect their opinion of the quality of public schools in this country? Or does it celebrate the opportunity of choice--and opportunity that our country prides itself on?
