I've never been a big fan of the show The Biggest Loser. Maybe it's my background in fitness, but I've just always been appalled at a show that touts over-exercising and extreme dieting as an acceptable way to lose weight. And I think what always worried me the most was I never, ever saw anything in the news about the unhealthy consequences a show like this could have on someone. At the very least, I always thought each episode should start off with a "Don't try this at home" message, but, unless I'm wrong, I've never seen one. You've probably seen the commercials bombarding the news about how high fructose corn syrup (I'll make this simple and call it HFCS) is "safe in moderation" and is "made from corn". Well, yes, I suppose that's true. After all, HFCS does start off as a mere corn kernel, so the commercials aren't lying. But, the end result is something that is a far, far, FAR cry from any corn I've seen. First of all, it ends up as a thick, sweet syrup.
