Monday's Health Tip: Halloween Candy for TroopsIf you're the parent of a little one, your child is probably still buzzing from all the sugar and candy he consumed over the weekend. And if you're worried your child is going to over-do it with the sweets, you might be wondering what do with all that extra Halloween candy. Why not send it overseas? Not only can you get rid of your child's Halloween candy, you can help put a smile on a soldier's face, too. What's better than that? Check out Soldier's Angels. All you need to do is ship your candy to the addresses given, and they'll send it to troops stationed overseas. So, not only can you get rid of your child's Halloween candy, you'll also be giving a deployed solider a little taste of home. And who deserves a sugary treat more than the men and women serving our country? It may not seem like much to you, but for all the men and women who are away from their families this holiday season, anything from home can seem like a blessing. So help teach your child the joy of giving...and make a dent in that giant Halloween stash at the same time!

Monday's Health Tip: Teen Substance AbuseWell, this isn't exactly a health tip, but it's a health topic that is all too often overlooked. Nickelodeon, the popular kids network known for shows like SpongeBob SquarePants and iCarly, has started airing a show that deals with a much heavier topic...teen substance abuse. The stats on this topic are sobering. In 2007, almost 25,000 of the 2 million people admitted into rehab were under the age of 15. [more] October 12, 2009
Monday's Health Tip: Travel FitnessOn November 7th, I'm heading off on a girl's trip to the gorgeous island of St. Maarten. (Well, I'm assuming it's gorgeous, based on the pictures I've seen.) Monday's Health Tip: Foam RollingA foam roller may look sweet and innocent, but the effects it has on your body are far from that. You may have seen a few of of them lying around your gym: Foam rolling is a form of stretching called myofascial release. The specifics of this type of stretching can get complicated, so I'll do my best not to get too scientific on you. Basically, what it does is help release the tension in your muscles, allowing them to loosen up and remain limber. [more]

Monday's Health Tip: Exercises You Probably Aren't Doing...But ShouldI'm always looking for new exercises to add to my workout routine. Not only does it keep the boredom at bay, but I usually am able to find an exercise or two that makes me work a part of my body that I was not previously working. (I know I've found such an exercise when I wake up sore the next morning and say, "I didn't even know I HAD a muscle there!") [more] September 14, 2009
Monday's Health Tip: Are you too sweet? The American Heart Association has recently provided new recommendations for the amount of added sugar people should consume in their diet. I've always thought I eat pretty healthy, but this new bit of news has me seriously reconsidering my dietary choices. According to the new recommendations, women shouldn't consume more than 100 calories (about 25 grams) of added sugars a day; men, 150. This averages out to about 6 teaspoons for women, and 9 teaspoons for men. [more]
