Bringing in the New Year
Tomorrow is New Year’s Eve, and everyone is preparing for the celebration. When I think of New Year's, I think of party hats, streamers and confetti, noisemakers, plenty of champagne, watching the ball drop in Times Square, and that song -- what’s it called? Holiday travel hustle n' bussel
Like it or not, traveling during the holiday season is a tradition. Whether you pack up your family to visit others, or your extended family comes to your house, lots of preparation and time are involved. I am traveling by plane back to my parents' house in Ohio, with my sister, brother-in-law, and 16-month-old niece, Elle. With the growing airline fees on checked bags, we are sure to pack light. We wish you an economic holiday
I remember that when I turned 12 years old, my mother announced that we would be celebrating a "grown-up Christmas" from now on. The big Christmas Eve feast was replaced with hors d'oeuvres, the cookies for Santa were forgotten, and other "more mature" modifications were made. That was the first big change in our holiday tradition, and I feel very fortunate that all these years my parents and siblings have provided each other with great holidays, with presents pouring out from under the tree. Now I am older, have a niece, and recognize that times are financially tough for everyone. It's time...

Baby Sign Language
It is so much fun to watch my beautiful 16-month-old niece, Elle, develop her hilarious personality. It is amazing to watch her grow physically and mentally, especially her communication skills. To see and hear her communicating now with her mom and dad is great, and finally solves the mystery as to why she’s crying! Elle is working on her verbal skills, but communicates mainly through sign language.
