Ringing in 2013

How will you be ringing in 2013?

I remember when going out, or to a big party, was the thing to do. (And, honestly, it's what I wanted to do.)

Isn't funny that all I want to do now is stay in for a nice night at home? Sure, we'll have a few friend stop by, but it's a far cry from our partying days of old.

And boy oh boy am I a-ok with that.

Anyway, what I really wanted to talk about was New Year's resolutions.

Do you have any?

In the past, I always had pretty lofty goals for the coming new year, and they were almost always fitness and/or food related.

Exercise every day! No chocolate for the whole year! Bread only once a week! Limited pasta!

And, surpise surprise, I usually failed. And even if I followed through, those resolutions didn't make me happy. In fact, they usually made me pretty miserable. (After all, who could ever be happy without chocolate in their life?)

So, this year, I'm changing the way I look at my resolutions. Instead of focusing on weight and food, I'm going to focus on other ways I can better myself and make myself happier. Here, in no particular order, are my New Year's resolutions:

1.) Be patient. Instead of rushing around, I'm going to take time to talk to people, not get annoyed at slow drivers, and stop to "smell the roses", so to speak. I'm going to apply patience to all aspects of my life.

2.) Be nice to people. This isn't to say I'm a mean person. But, like all people, I can get annoyed at others, whether they're friends, family, or strangers. My goal is to smile more, and take a deep breath anytime I find myself judging someone, or getting irritated.

3.) Try a new recipe once a month. I love to cook and bake, and being in the kitchen makes me happy. I think this will be a fun one!

4.) Exercise for mental health, not just for physical gains. I do like working out, but I put too much pressure on myself to make it to the gym a certain number of time a week or to run a certain amount of miles. I'm going to stop counting, and work out because it makes me happy, not to try to lose weight.

5.) Do more yoga. I've been taking more classes and find I really enjoy it. I'd like to do more.

6.) Watch less television. It's a guilty pleasure of mine. While I don't want to cut it out completely, I'd like to watch less and find other ways to spend my time, like reading or cooking (see #3.)
