Give the Gift of Reading this Year

"Something you want, something you need, something to wear, something to read."

Have you heard this mantra yet this holiday season? We've seen it all over social media, particularly Facebook, and it's something we can get on board with. In this age of high-tech gifts and over-indulgence, we love the idea of taking a step back and going back to simple, classic gifts — especially books, board games, and old-school basement games.

If you're looking for gifts that give back (everyone loves those!) while keeping with the minimalist theme, check out the Children's Book Week store. All of the proceeds benefit Every Child a Reader, the organization that brings us Children’s Book Week, the Children’s Choice Book Awards and the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature programs. In this age of reluctant readers (studies have shown that a child's interest in reading for fun dwindles after age 3), it's important to show kids that reading can be fun. Be sure to check this site out if books are high on your holiday gift list this year!
