My Father Knows The Names Of Things

by Jane Yolen and Illustrated by Stephane Jorisch

This is a great last minute Father's Day Gift that you have time to get! What better than giving a book for father and child to enjoy together? What I like about this book is that it's the anti -mush book. It encapsulates exactly the relationship my son and husband have. They explore together, they play pretend together and in the words of my son " I bet Daddy will know , he knows stuff!" It's that pride and confidence in dads that this book is devoted to and  is what author Jane Yolen gets so perfectly with this half rooted in reality, half rooted in the stars book. It's a love story of fatherhood and all without a single bit of mush which makes this book perfect for our house ( and I suspect a few of yours too). The illustrations are whimsical and adventurous and lend a hand to the poem in making this book memorable. It's a great balance between text and images. I was going to review this book with a handful of other's for Father's Day and liked it so much I decided to feature it all alone.
