I know exactly what you mean and was just talking to a friend about this the other day. How a six-hour trip in the car is not nearly as daunting as it was just a few short years ago. The kids need snacks and something to occupy their attention and you are good to go. We try to strike a balance between handheld electronics, portable DVDs and some old-fashioned fun. I really think they at least need a small taste of the boredom we suffered as kids in the car. So they at least can have a little perspective and gratitude. :-)

We are planning a trip to Kansas City at the end of July and aren't nearly as nervous about the drive there. It's gonna be a piece of cake! (Fingers crossed).

I'm looking forward to hearing about your week, how things have gone at the beach. I am sending lots of positive thoughts east, that your kids are having a really great week and letting their parents have one too!

L. isn't the greatest car traveler, but Scott and I were just remembering that last time we went to the Outer Banks, six years ago, and T. cried the WHOLE way there--I kid you not.
