Hey, all you well-meaning guys out there. Were you thinking about helping out a future family by donating your sperm to a sperm bank?
Well, rumor has it, if you're a redhead, don't bother.
Cryos International, the largest sperm bank in the world, has started to turn redheaded donors away due to lack of demand.
Yep that's right-- apparently those using sperm banks to have a baby would prefer not to have a redheaded child.
There isn't really any hard and fast reason why this is the case. Some speculate it's because the future parents are concerned about the amount of teasing redheads face on the playground and at school.
Others think it might be due to a study that shows redheads are more sensitive to physical pain than their non-redheaded peers.
Still others think, well, it's because red hair simply isn't the preferred look they had envisioned for their future child. Unless of course, the sterile male is a redhead or red hair runs in the family.
Or if the family is from Ireland. Apparently redheads are in high demand there.
Whatever the reason, redheads just don't seem to be all that popular right now.
I certainly wouldn't turn down the idea of having a redheaded child, even with the supposed "extra teasing" and "increased physical pain" they apparently experience.
As a redhead myself, I think these are pretty poor excuses.
My pain threshold is just as high, if not higher, than most people I know, thank you very much.
And while I was teased on occasion in school, it wasn't really anything to write home about. Really-- is there anyone out there that can say they weren't teased on some occasion?
It's a part of growing up. Kids tease.
