I feel aloneI feel alone. I am trying to do everything, and people still expect more from me. I’d like to run away to a secluded island for rest, peace, and quiet. I would love to be in a place were you can smell the morning and hear nothing but the birds; a place somewhere that’s nowhere, so I can clear my thoughts and regroup. But if I did, then who would answer Jeremiah’s letter, encouraging him to think of a possible 15-year sentence as just a stop on his journey? If I did, then who would talk with the boys and encourage their little triumphs? [more]

Get well soonI spent the better part of the day yesterday in a hospital room. And, when I wasn’t in the room, the rest of the day was spent waiting to hear news about my 86-year-old father-in-law’s double knee replacement surgery. Although this procedure didn’t have the urgency of the emergency abdominal aorta aneurism operation he had a few years ago, any surgery is risky business, and priorities are firmly jolted back to their rightful place.

Best. Weekend. EverIn the middle of the weekend, I received a text message from perhaps my last single (longtime) friend: “Have had the best weekend ever. She’s the one.” I wrote back asking if he meant, “The ONE, the one.” He affirmed. [more]
