Simple Syrup, with emphasis on the simple

If you know me, you know I love Trader Joe’s. I was there last week and spotted a new item, a 12 ounce bottle of simple syrup for $2.49. I realize that TJ’s has a large following of folks who simply want flavorful, natural convenience food, and for most, buying this simple syrup would be a big convenience.

I am all for convenience, really I am. But making simple syrup could not be, well, simpler. To prove my point, I took a picture of my timer when I began and when I was finished…

Cookie Simplicity

Although I love being in the kitchen, shortly after I became a mother, I resigned myself to being an underachiever with my Christmas Cookies. I love baking -- love it. But a few years ago, amidst all the activity of the holidays swirling around me, I decided that December is not the time to go over-the-top with my baking.

I came to this conclusion by reasoning that R and G need a peaceful, relaxed, happy mom during the holidays, rather than one who was trying to run around the kitchen like a Tasmanian devil, creating confections to wow her family and friends.  [more]
