Father's Day
Would Your Child's Dad Do What the Texas Dad Did?
With Father's Day weekend approaching, this week’s news of the Texas father who beat to death his 4-year-old daughter’s alleged molester has spread like wildfire. No names have been released, but as the story goes, the 23-year-old father learned from his young son that his daughter had been led away on their property by a family acquaintance. The dad heard the daughter’s screams and discovered her and a 47-year-old acquaintance both partially naked in or near a horse barn. The father repeatedly beat the man in the head, leading to his death.
The father hasn’t been arrested because Texas law permits violence to defend oneself or a third party. But a grand jury will still examine the case to get all the facts straight. The dad has reportedly expressed remorse and said he didn’t intend to kill the alleged attacker. The public has widely rallied around the father – “good for him,” “father of the year,” “instant justice,” “I would’ve done the same!” – but a Texas civil rights leader is asking “where do we draw the line in self defense?” (i.e. – should someone repeatedly beat an attacker when a punch or two might have stopped the attack?).
Last Minute Father's Day Gifts

I have seen these photo ideas all over this year and I love it! These cuties are over at MomsTown.ca

After you make that photo you can pop it in this super cool duct tape wallet!

I love this idea for older kids, they get to report on their dad and create an awesome keepsake at the same time.

These suit cards have been around forever but they never get old! These are from FamilyFun Magazine.

This pencil holder we made a few years ago is always a hit , let's be honest anything with Home Depot on it is a hit with the men in my family.
Father's Day Gift

I am so excited for Father's Day this year. It like many years lands on our wedding anniversary as well so even though we normally keep gifts small and handmade this year I went a little bigger with 2 "good" ( well good for us) seats at a Mariners game for my son and husband. My husband is a serious sports fan and loves sharing that with our oldest.
However I HAD to make something.
Since the game isn't until July I decided to make him a poster calendar for him at work featuring our son all dressed up like a baseball player and will circle the date of the game too.
The poster was a cinch to make. The hardest part was to try to convince my batman loving son to put his baseball dress up outfit on. Then using a photo gifts site ( my faves are snapfish and shutterfly) and don't forget to go a goole search for the site you are using's name and coupon code all in " " , I have never paid full price for anything on those sites, there is always promotions. I got this calendar for just over $6 with shipping it was under $10.
Fun Father's Day Idea
Personal DVD!
Today's families are busy, and if your house is anything like mine time together is precious. Sometimes parents have to go away for work and that can be hard on everyone. This is a fun Father's Day idea but can obviously be used anytime for mom , dad or other family members far away.
As a stay-at-home-mom I am privy to little moments of silliness throughout the day , elaborate pretend play and spontaneous songs. To me this is why I stay home - I get to see these moments and wish my husband did too.
The Way to a Father's Heart...
A couple years ago, SPH and I decided that the best present we could give each other for Mother’s and Father’s Day was time…time to sleep in, time to read the paper, time to do whatever the heck we wanted to do without worrying about how the kids would work into the equation. The decision was partly made due to the fact that SPH was in school full time and our budget was tight, but even now, with SPH working full time, we’ve kept the tradition.
Make Something For Dad!
Father's Day is this Sunday! My husband got his gifts early (one of the pitfalls of your wife being a crafty blogger) but if you haven't made something for dad yet here are some great ideas from around the blogosphere!
Books About Dad
Father's Day is just around the bend and one of our family traditions is to get a book for my son and husband to share together on Father's Day and all year round. Here are a few great reads that we enjoy in our house.
Stress Free Father's Day
I have seen these balloon stress balls made before but never tried it myself. I thought it would make a cute Father's Day craft even if it's not toddler friendly ,school age kids would be able to do this independently.
Father's Day
My third Father’s Day is in the books (well, almost). I’m always a little unsure as to exactly what to do on Father’s Day. The question always comes: “What do you want to do?” And, I never know. My inclination is to want a day off. Completely. Just do absolutely nothing. No diaper changes. No responsibility. Sit on the couch, watch sports and be totally excused from any sort of chores for the day. But, then…it never really works out that way. And, I probably don’t want it that way.
