Without fashion.

I remember when they took me to jail. They handcuffed me and put me in a patty wagon with other inmates. I ignored them; I was thinking about my daughter. When we reached the county jail, I was told that I had to take out my braids (with extensions) before they could send me to population. I sat in a cell and took out the braids. When I was finally done, my hair was short and padded. I was completely humiliated. It looked and felt like wool. [more]

Fashion, Art, and Buttons

Fashion is like Vincent Van Gogh’s painting, “Sunflowers.”

The painting expresses a characteristic style – “bold use of color and composition.” Likewise, fashion frames one’s persona – clothes, shoes, accessories, hair, and (even) cell phones paint a portrait.

The Case of Mercy Hospital and the Brown Belt

I sat in class today and I just didn’t understand.

The professor lectured, “Mercy Hospital is a large, multi-service, religious affiliated, non-profit private hospital….”

There was something about his clothes.

We were reviewing a human resource case study. “In 2007, the hospital’s total expenditures were projected to be $30,000,000 and 5% of that was devoted to nursing services….”

I understood him wearing a wrinkle-free white collared dress shirt under a twill two-button blazer. [more]
