Deconstructed Cheddar Soup

Is there anything like a bowl of warm soup on a cold (nearly) winter's day?  I love the simplicity of having a hearty meal in one bowl, perfected by some crusty bread to dip in it.

Cheddar Broccoli Soup is a favorite of mine, but usually it's richness comes from lots of extra, not-so-healthy ingredients and calories.

This soup recipe is full of vegetables, much lighter than a typical cheese soup and serves as a terrific base for adding all sorts of good things. [more]

Storytelling

On Saturday we had one of those perfect dinners where the kids ate like normal people, and no one threw food, and we had an actual long conversation where everyone lingered over their meal and didn't catapult out of their chairs the minute they felt full (and with those little kid tummies, that usually takes five seconds around here). The conversation started with trying to help L. process two "bad" days he had last week--bad because he had different substitute teachers on Thursday and Friday, never a good thing for L. [more]

Say (mac &) cheese!

There are literally hundreds, thousands (millions, if you want to get carried away) of reasons why having a kid/having kids is such an amazing, rewarding experience.
